House of 1000 corpses (2003)

i just watched this movie and i absolutely LOVED it. hence why ive put it into my favorite movies section rather than down with the other reviews. this movie was crappy but campy and a fuck ton of fun! my absolute favorite part of this movie were the aesthetics. makes sense seeing as this film was created by the one and only rob zombie. i loves the weird gothy, gorey, hillbilly vibe of the characters and the movie as a whole. my favorite characters were probably baby and otis. honestly the visuals of this movie completely distracted me from the low budget feel of this film and if anything added to the aesthetic appeal for me. if youve read some of my other reviews youd probably know im fond of slightly shitty, over the top, gorey horror movies so this one fit right in. overall it was a fun watch and i rlly enjoyed it.

Mysterious Skin (2005)

Mysterious skin is one of the saddest movies ive seen. its about two individuals who shared an experience as a child and went on to live vastly different lives with totally different perceptions of what happened to them both. one of them is fully aware of what happened and the other is not and percieves it as something different. this movie follows both of their lives as well as them reconnecting in adulthood adn the oe who remanined unaware of what happened coming to the realization. this movie is truly heartshattering. i think the way the plot develops is done super well and the visual aspects of the movie and the characters were done beautifully.

SAW (2004)

The first saw film has been one of my favorite horror movies since I first saw it. I do enjoy the other movies in the franchise unlike many other movies were I end up hating every movie in the collection. However the first saw film holds a special place in my heart. I love the gritty and dark aesthetics of the film and the sickly green tint. Id say that saw certainly falls into that shitty 2000s horror genre in a way but that just makes me love it even more. many people I know hate saw because its just "torture porn" and too gory, but I think what stands out to me is how genuinely fucked the concept is. I love horror but i rarely find myself scared by horror movies because alot of them center around supernatural events. while sci-fi and supernatural stuff is cool, i dont find it scary most of the time because its not grounded in reality. Saw however is just one individual doing truly sick and twisted shit to others which is really chilling in a way. objectively some of this movie and franchise is a little silly, but it doesnt put me off it at all. Adam Stanheight will always be famous 2 me < 3

The Girl Next Door (2004)

I LOVE THE GIRL NEXT DOOR!! Its one of my favorite 2000s highschool comedies and its just so funny and crazy! i originally watched it because paul dano was in it and boy do i love this movie. theres something so good about the contrast between the raunchy humour and some of the sweeter more serious themes of the movie. alot of the movies on this list are dark or sad but i really do love just a good stupid comedy. i love the genre of 2000s movies that follow a group of losers getting into some crazy shit and this is right up that alley. theres something almost endearing about this movie even though most of the plot is extremely raunchy. either way this movie is just fun and sweet and overall a good time.

As You Are (2016)

Honestly this movie is just fucking sad. it centeres areound the struggle of two gay teenagers in the 90s and shows both their internal and external struggles with their sexualities. the movie engs in tragedy and its really fucking heartbreaking. i love the visual aesthetics as well as the soundtrack of this film. alot of the music was made for the movie and doesnt even feature any lyrics but the use of gritty distortion mixed with soft angelic humming really cuts deep especially with the context of the scenes. just another sad but beautiful movie that will always be dear to me and i love.

Postal: The Movie (2007)

This movie is a fucking trip. seeing as postal is my favorite videogame franchise I of course love the movie. While zack wards portrayal of the postal dude is quite a bit different from how hes protrayed in games I still thoroughly enjoy his character in the movie. This movie is packed with rauncy, offensive comedy and over the top action! the plot of this movie is genuinely just absurd and ridiculous but I loved every second of it. If you enjoy postal or just ridiculous and hilarious movies id highly reccomend the postal movie!

Electric Dreams (1984)

This movie was kind of odd. its a take on the whole fear of artificial intelligence taking over but its from the 80s so they didnt really have any idea of what AI would be like all these years later. The artificially intelligent computer in the movie sorta serves as the main antagonist cuz he keeps fucking with his human owners relationship with his girlfriend. The AI basically gets jealous and starts trying to take her from him and shit ensues. my friends all loved the computer but he was making e mad cuz i was sorta rooting for the protagonist. eitherway the movie was just kinda silly and fun so i thought it was alright.

Videodrome (1983)

This movie was reallllyyy fucking weird. its about this guys that like works for a tv broadcasting channel or something that broadcasts porn and the company decides they want to branch out into the snuff category. the main guys a freak and gets kinda into this one snuff film called videodrome but it like fucks him up and he starts getting delusions of snuff in his everyday life. eventually it gets really really weird and he has like a vagina....? in his chest...? and he also tries to have intercourse.... with a tv...? honestly this explanation is probably really bad but i barely knew what was going on in this movie. if your into very weird and obscure 80s bodyhorror it might be worth checking out.

I Saw The TV Glow (2024)

!POSSIBLE SPOILERS! Me and my friend watched this movie last night and overall i thought it was pretty good. This movie is supposedly a trans allegory of sorts and while i definitely picked up on that there were some parts of the movie i didnt really understand..? i didnt love the actual concept of the pink opaque i guess? thats very nitpicky tho and the actual plot of the pink opaque isnt super important to the plot of the movie. some parts of this movie were just kinda weird to me but i think thats just cuz this movie isnt really my thing. i feel like parts of this movie could be really strong but something about the pink opaques involvement weakened it for me idk. i did enjoy it tho, i know lots of ppl love this movie so pls dont burn me at the stake it was still a good movie.

Tetsuo: The Iron Man (1989)

i didnt watch this entire movie because me and my friend watched half, went to sleep and then forgot to put the other half on in the morning but ill just talk about what i did see. this movie was a little odd and confusing probably because there was nearly no dialogue at all but the general idea is that theres this guy whos got like a fetish for metal..?? like the material... metal. but anyways he like cuts open his leg and puts a metal rod in his leg and it gets like super infected. at this point i think i lowkey fell asleep but i think he died or smt and then thers this business man who gets like posessed sorta?? and his body starts turning into metal idk thats all i really remember lmao. anywyas this movie had some cool body horror if ur into that sorta stuff and the black and white film its shot on makes the gore very gritty and gross in a weird way. even tho i cant say much for the plot... the aesthetics of this movie were pretty weird but cool.

Re-Animator (1985)

i really fuckin enjoyed this movie! its about a scientist guy named herbert west who discovers a formula that can bring the dead back to life. (very simplified plot because i watched this a while ago and have bad memmory) overall the plot was solid the effects were cool and i really fucked with herbert west. something about this movie was almost endearing to me in a way?? im not usually super into scifi but i really got into this and enkoyed it alot!

Bride of Re-Animator (1990)

this is the second movie in the reanimator series. at the end of the first movie dan cains girlfriend megan died. the plot of the second movie follows dan and herbert constructing a body for her with her heart inside. they then go through the process of bringing her to life but a whole bunch of other shit insues. again because of my bad memory i dont have alot to say about this movie but i did enjoy it when watching it and would probably rewatch it alongside the first movie!

Party Monster (2003)

i watched this movie today and i reallyyy enjoyed it! it was very chaotic and strange but it really kept me interested throughout. this movie is based off the new york club kids in the 90s and i found the culture and aesthetics this film portrayed to be very interesting. ny favorite character was christina superstar portrayed by marilyn manson (as seen in the bottom left corner of the movie poster). she was a very minor chracter but i loved her outfits and the sheer absurdidty of her character. i think her character was likely a bit exaggerated compared to what chrstina was like in real life but i still enjoyed the few scenes of her in this movie. overall this movie was quite tragic but i enjoyed the artistic manner it was made in. despite the low budget nature and general chaos i still very much enjoyed this movie.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

i watched this movie a couple nights ago because ive been meaning to watch some horror movies this year and i really enjoyed this movie. it reminded me alot of house of 1000 corpses because of the hillbilly horror theme of the killers and house of 1000 corpses is one of my favorites so this one was very enjoyable for me. some of the acting was a little shitty in the begining of the movie who it was fine when important stuff actually started happening. honestly i dont love watching really old movies cuz the tend to be super long and slow but this movie had decent pacing. horro movies dont usually freak me out but something about this movie got me in certain bits i really love how eerie and weird leatherfaces house was... overall was a good kickoff to halloween for me.
